Hugh wakes a couple of times hoping for dawn; no doubt excitement is dictating his body-clock. On one occasion, at 6.30 a.m., he sees a refuse boat depart.

Shaving, always a daily priority, Hugh reverts to his ordinary razor when his adaptor does not suit the cabin’s electrical socket. Reluctantly, he recalls the multiple, number of times this type of inconvenience has fouled his path. It makes him question if or not a beard might be more convenient in distant lands? The problem encourages him to immediately contact ‘house keeping’ and requests an appropriate adaptor; at the sane time, he reports the noisy, air-conditioning fan. Hugh is reflecting upon the detail that how ever much is paid for a holiday, usually the amount will not remove an irregularity in comfort. Deciding that a response to his request will not be forthcoming before breakfast, Hugh is persevering with his ‘wet’ razor, trying to remove two days growth. How much we rely upon electricity.

To his surprise, an attendant requests entry, carrying the ordered adapter and, also, he is intent upon quietening the air conditioner’s noisy fan. While the engineer is struggling with the ceiling apparatus, Sonia emerges from the shower un-aware of the engineer’s presence. Casually she wraps a towel around her slim figure whilst the engineer is concentrating upon his task. She does not know if he has been sufficiently absorbed upon his work or, perhaps, has he enjoyed the spectacle of her naked figure? The fact that the smaller than usual bath towel is hardly adequate, does not perturb her: neither does it upset the two men in the now crowded cabin.

Sonia selects a simple dress from the rack and, returning to the shower cubicle, she completes dressing ready for breakfast.

In particular, Hugh is enjoying his breakfast and because he can readily recognise the food on offer, many times does he think that the first meal of the day must be his favourite meal. Hardly have they completed breakfast when the siren sounds for ‘muster drill‘.

Maritime law demands an early drill although Hugh harbours the thought that he believes the law decrees that it must take place within seven days, which he considers inadequate; the drill will occupy thirty minutes. Experience reminds Hugh that the one detail, which he considers important, never seems to be within normal cruise ship’s code of practice. Always he makes a point of locating his, designated life boat. In the dead of night, riding a heavy swell in driving rain, Hugh can not be sure of locating any life boat without prior practise. Once again, ’safety’ is open to convenience, like aircraft seats not facing backwards.

For the compulsory, safety muster, Sonia assembles on deck wearing shorts of breathtaking brevity, cut at the sides, and an off the shoulder blouse. The blouse is split at the back, between her shoulder blades, and the hem is higher than her shorts. Her exposed midriff is attracting glances, especially from the crew.

At question time, factiously, Hugh asks if the passengers
